We've been reading about life long ago in reading class, so Megan Sharp came to visit from the Plainsman Museum!  She brought museum artifacts.  We learned about how kids had fun 100 years ago.  We played with the museum games, and she even helped us make one to take home!

Our reading group met our reading goal!  For a reward, they chose to bring a "friend" along to school to read with them today.  Our friends were well behaved and even read over lunch break!

We learned some information about our new friends in Georgia:
*They go to Walnut Creek Elementary School.
*They live in McDonough, Georgia, which is just south of Atlanta.
*They have 6 First Grade classes.
*They don't usually get snow, but last year they got 2 inches!

Yesterday, we visited the 3rd grade character pumpkins.  They are amazing!  Be sure to stop down there when you come to conferences:)

Family Literacy Night was a big success last night! Check out this link that Mr. Badura put together! https://animoto.com/play/9smoVi2YpHQ81dQmxyM0Jw

We skyped with some new friends from Georgia today!  We will continue to learn more about Mrs. Moore's class throughout the year.  Ask your child what they thought about our fun afternoon!

It's the doubles, baby!  We know our doubles facts up to 10+10!  We can rap with actions too!  Ask your child to demonstrate:)

Charlotte brought in some caterpillars for us to watch.  There were enough that we were able to share with the other First Grade classes.  We'll see if they will make a chrysalis or cocoon and become moths or butterflies.

SCARECROW PATCH FUN! Here are just a few photos from our field trip yesterday.  Check the Kidblog link later, as we'll be blogging about our trip this afternoon!:)

Thank you for all of the new comments on our Kidblog page!  I've "approved" them so the kids can now see your kind words.  We love hearing from friends and family around the globe:)

Be sure to check out the Kidblog link to the right!  We'd love to have comments on our posts.  There will be another new post tomorrow.:)

We met our new reading buddies! About once a month, we meet with 7th graders. We'll keep our same "buddy" all year. They read with us and do fun activities. Ask your child about their "buddy"! Look how full our room was with all of those bodies:)

YUP, that's our class!:) We look like David in his class picture!

On Friday, we had our Summer Fun Book party!

WE LOVE OUR NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT!

On Monday, we had our annual Kick Off. Our theme this year is Be Someone's Hero. We had lots of entertainment including Mark Groetzinger, who talked about all the ways we can be everyday heroes.

Open House was wonderful! It's pretty exciting to see a line of parents stretched down the sidewalk waiting for the doors to open. That's what parent support looks like! A big thanks to all of the parents and kids that came. I had ALL of my students able to make it! :)

READY TO MEET MY NEW CLASS!!!! Open House is 6:00-7:30 tonight, and I think the room is finally ready!

On Friday we visited our 7th grade buddies at the Middle School building. Very exciting!!!

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our Painted Lady butterflies. They each made a chrysalis last week, so they should emerge later this week!

Meet our new friends! The class voted for the following names: Clashy, Thunder, Buddy, Lily, Giant, Rosie, Spike and Lightning. They will turn into Painted Lady Butterflies in about 3 weeks. We'll update pictures to show the stages of their life cycle soon!

We have some amazing cow artists in first grade:)

It has been such wonderful, spring-like weather that we spent our spelling time doing "sidewalk spelling" last week. I love spring!:)

This week we had a "snow day". No, it didn't involve freezing temps! (It was actually spring weather) We earned a reward for filling the fish tank with PAW reward slips! We all wore our pajamas to school. Each grade went to the gym for "snowball" fights and a "blizzard". Then we ate smores in our classroom. SO fun!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! We celebrated by spreading cheer to other adults in the building and doing many Valentine activities in class.

Yesterday we skyped with two 1st grade classes in Texas. We learned about their weather and their city.

About 14 inches of snow makes for a FUN RECESS!
