We've been having Christmas fun all week! This morning, we hunted for hiding elves and this afternoon we'll get to sing carols with the whole school!

Each Thursday, my reading class has "Digital Day". Most, if not all, activities that day are completed on the ipads. Two other reading classes do the same on Tuesday or Wednesday. Ask your child about these days, and see what they like about them!:)

We learned to use a new app yesterday called Kodable. It's a fun one, and makes the kids think, too--which is what I really like:) Try it at home!

Have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving break. We've been learning a lot from Mr. Badura about safe websites. Ask your child what they've learned!

SILLY SOCK DAY!!!

We visited the 3rd graders' literacy pumpkins. They are AMAZING! If you're in the building it's worth a trip down the hall:)

We Facetimed with a lady in California yesterday! There were many sea gulls and seals on the beach. Many of our first graders have never been to the ocean, so we were super excited to see a new place!

We have a praying mantis in our room. We "app smashed" about him on our Kidblog! Read your child's post with the link on the right:)

All of the kids posted their favorite part of school in our KidBlog. Find the link to the right, and leave us a comment! We'd love to hear from you!:)

We went to the Homecoming Parade on Friday! We saw Trey (our high school helper) and the rest of the football team, the cheerleaders and the band (our favorite). Nice afternoon to sit in the shade and cheer for a parade!

On Friday, we met our "reading buddies". They are 7th graders that come over to our building once a month to read with us and do projects. Ask your child if they remember their "buddy's" name!!! Here are a couple pictures of our new friends.

We read several Splat books so far this year. He's so cute and funny! We've written about him and now we've finger painted him! Be sure to check out the finished products the next time you're in the building!

We had our annual Kick Off on Friday! The high school band played for us and we listened to two high school athletes about how they are "Bucket Fillers". We also FINALLY got to see our LipDub from last spring. When I get permission, I'll post it on here also. So much fun!!! Here are some pictures from our fun:)

Please use the address below to enjoy a little bit about what we'll be doing this year in First Grade! I couldn't get it to work as a link, so just copy and paste it into your browser and it should load:) http://voice.adobe.com/v/JwYWSnHztoM

WELCOME TO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR! We are ready for a great year! Thanks to all of the parents that came to Open House last night! I love being able to meet you before the first day. Our morning today went super fast! Next week will be a long week, so you may think about making the bedtime a little earlier by Wednesday or Thursday night. I know I'll be doing the same!

WOW!  I always think the year goes quickly, but this seems to be the fastest yet!  We've had a wonderful year here in First Grade!  We've learned about and corresponded with kids from San Diego, California and Japan.  We've learned to do TONS of cool things on our iPads.  We've grown physically, socially and academically and now WE'RE READY FOR 2ND GRADE!  Have a safe, healthy and fun summer:)

This week is "My library makes me HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY" week:) Remember to wear camo tomorrow!!! Because of this, we got to have Mr. Sutter as our guest reader during library time today. We loved listening to him!

Today was pajama day and Team Mackenzie day!!! We earned pajama day for meeting our behavior goal.

After we made our imovies about our school, our digital penpals sent us a video telling all about their school. Please take a minute to enjoy learning about their little piece of San Diego!:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-NZQZbxCGg&feature=em-upload_owner

Please enjoy some imovies the kids made for our friends in San Diego! This is the first time we've used iMovie, so please remember we're new at this and we don't know how to edit yet. That will be for the next time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIpfsKtD0d8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm4bfPR9uDA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPr-XI2mVcw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bDvgW-N7Ns http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xjXMJngWZE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXx2scJk0KA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XolibkHiswA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF9A90PEVqE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwzJHEgOsQg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMrWNlxnnuY

This week, some of the reading groups are having "guest readers". Here is a picture of Charlie reading today:)

Scan this QR code to view A Day in First Grade. We made this video for the school newsletter. Enjoy!:)

On Friday, we had the Aurora Olympics. The kids had a blast! We earned this as a school wide reward for filling the fish tank with PAW (Positive Actions Work) notes. Ask your child what was their favorite part!:)

Thank you for coming to Parent/Teacher Conferences last week! We had EVERY child represented. I truly appreciate our parents' dedication to their children! Here is a quick shot of our Valentine's Day. We wrote descriptive paragraphs about our creative hearts. Then the class had to guess which heart they were describing. It showed them that they needed to write clear descriptions so others know exactly what they're talking about! (Besides, it was just fun!)

Hello all! I hope you're staying warm! I'm excited to see all of you parents on Thursday for our Parent/Teacher conferences! If you have not sent the confirmation note back with your child, please do so soon. See you Thursday......

We wrote letters to our new friends in Japan yesterday. Hopefully your child showed you the letter he/she received from there!:) We will also send them pictures of our class and of the Aurora area. They are anxious to hear from us!

Last Thursday, we celebrated the 100th Day of School. I like any excuse for a school celebration!:) I hope your child told you all the fun things we did that day. The kids were greeted with this sign at the door!

I feel we've finally gotten back into the swing of things now. We had our 2nd Semester Kick Off last Friday. We're off to a great start!
